Rivendell Cars

How the Independent dealer route works

Rivendell have a "Sell Your Car" form on their website with three options: Straight Sale, Commissioned Sale, or Part Exchange. For a straight sale, you complete the form with your vehicle details and they contact you to discuss. For a commissioned sale (their version of sale-or-return), they market the vehicle on your behalf. For part exchange, you can select a specific vehicle from their current stock to exchange against. All viewings are by appointment: they are flexible on timing including evenings and weekends to suit customers.

  • Confirm whether a site visit or appointment is required
  • Check the offer validity period and any conditions
  • Clarify payment method and timing before committing
  • Ask about any deductions or inspection adjustments

What Rivendell Cars look for

Rivendell are selective about stock. Their forecourt reflects quality over volume: Audi A3, A4, A6, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen Golf GTI and similar aspirational but practical vehicles. They want cars with known, documented history and good condition. Their commissioned sale option exists specifically for vehicles where a straight trade price would not do justice to the car's quality or rarity.

We Buy Cars Hexham accepts

  • All makes and models
  • High mileage and older vehicles
  • Failed MOT and SORN
  • Non-runners and fault warning lights
  • Partial or no service history
  • Body damage and wear

When each option suits

A doorstep sale suits when

  • You want collection from home without travelling to a branch
  • The car has faults, failed MOT, is a non-runner or SORN
  • You need certainty of payment on the same day
  • You are in Hexham, the Tyne Valley or surrounding areas
  • You have already had a dealer valuation and want to compare
  • You want DVLA paperwork handled at point of collection

Rivendell Cars suits when

Rivendell is an excellent option for the right car. If your vehicle is a quality example with documented service history in good condition, their commissioned sale route in particular may achieve a retail price rather than a trade price. For cars with faults, failed MOT, non-runners, or everyday budget vehicles, a direct sale to a doorstep buyer is a faster and more practical route. We also offer Sale-or-Return for quality vehicles where the market may support a price above trade.

Rivendell's three ways to sell

Rivendell offer something genuinely unusual for a small independent: a formal three-way selling option. Straight Sale is an outright purchase by Rivendell. Commissioned Sale means they market and sell the car on your behalf, releasing funds once a buyer completes. Part Exchange works against their current stock. The commissioned route is worth considering for quality cars where a trade price would leave money on the table, but it requires patience as the car needs to find a retail buyer. If time is a factor, an outright sale to a buyer who collects same-day is more predictable.

Common questions

Do you collect from my home address?
Yes. We collect from your address across Hexham, the Tyne Valley and surrounding areas. No branch visit or appointment away from home is needed.
Do you buy non-runners and failed MOT vehicles?
Yes. Failed MOTs, non-runners, SORN vehicles, warning lights and cosmetic damage are all assessed. We give you a clear price before committing.
How quickly do you pay?
Payment is by bank transfer confirmed at your address in most cases. Funds are verified before we leave.
Are there admin fees or deductions?
No admin deductions on straightforward purchases. If you use our Sale-or-Return route, all terms are agreed before we start.
What paperwork do I need?
V5C logbook and one photo ID. Service history helps with valuation but is not essential. We complete the DVLA steps at collection.
What is the difference between your valuation and a dealer part exchange?
A dealer part exchange values your car as a cost to offset against a new purchase. A direct cash offer values it as a standalone transaction. The two figures can differ significantly for the same car.
