Sell a Damaged or Accident-Damaged Car in Hexham and the Tyne Valley

Damage does not stop us buying a car, and a Cat S or Cat N marker is not the deal-killer many people fear. We buy damaged cars, accident-damaged cars, salvage, vandalised cars, cars with a cracked screen or kerbed panels, and cars that insurers have recorded as repairable write-offs. The key with a damaged car is honesty. Tell us what happened, send a couple of photos, and we will give you a fair figure that holds at collection. No re-inspection games, no driveway renegotiation.

Damaged cars we buy and price fairly

  • Front, rear or side accident damage, driveable or not
  • Recorded write-offs and salvage: Category S and Category N
  • Vandalism: keyed panels, broken glass, slashed roof
  • Cracked or smashed windscreen
  • Storm, flood, water or fire damage
  • Older Cat C and Cat D write-offs, not just Cat S and Cat N

What Cat S and Cat N actually mean

Since the write-off categories changed in October 2017, a damaged car is graded by the type of damage, not just the size of the repair bill. Category N means non-structural damage: cosmetic, electrical or mechanical work the insurer decided was not economical for them to put right, with nothing wrong with the chassis or safety structure. Category S means structural damage that is still repairable, such as a bent chassis rail or a collapsed crumple zone. Both can legally return to the road once properly repaired and through an MOT, and both must be declared when the car is sold. Category A and Category B are different: a Cat A must be crushed whole, and a Cat B has its usable parts removed before the shell is destroyed, so neither goes back on the road.

You may still see the older labels Category C and Category D on cars written off before October 2017. Those were graded on the cost of repair, not the type of damage: Cat C meant the repair would have cost more than the car was worth, and Cat D meant it would have cost less but the insurer chose not to repair it anyway. They were replaced by Cat S and Cat N, but plenty of older cars still carry a Cat C or Cat D marker, and we buy those just the same.

Fire and flood-damaged cars sit at the more serious end. Light water ingress or an engine-bay fire can still be repairable, while a fully burnt-out or submerged car is usually only worth its salvage and parts. Either way we buy them, and we tell you honestly which it is.

Honesty upfront gets you a better price

The single best thing you can do when selling a damaged car is describe it accurately and send photos. A clear picture of the damage lets us price the car properly the first time, so there is no awkward renegotiation on the driveway. We would far rather quote slightly cautiously and then hold that figure than quote high and chip away at it when we arrive. There is a real, active market for well-repaired Cat S and Cat N cars and salvage, and we buy them regularly.

Driveable or not, we collect it

If the damage means the car is not safe or legal to drive, that is fine. We collect on a flatbed, so a damaged car with a smashed front end, no lights or a cracked screen never has to move under its own power. If it is driveable and you just want it gone, that works too.

When an insurance route may suit you better

If the damage is fresh and the accident was not your fault, it is worth checking whether an insurance claim leaves you better off before you sell privately. We are not here to talk you out of a claim you are owed. Once you know where you stand, if selling the damaged car directly is the cleaner option, we are ready.

Common questions

Do you buy accident-damaged cars?
Yes. We buy damaged cars with impact damage, vandalism, broken glass and storm damage, whether they are driveable or not. Send a couple of photos and a description and we will give you a fair, firm figure.
Will you buy a Cat S or Cat N car, or salvage?
Yes. There is a genuine market for well-repaired Category S and Category N cars and salvage, and we buy them regularly. Disclose the marker upfront and it is priced in cleanly, with no surprise renegotiation later.
Where can I sell my damaged car near me?
We are based in Hexham and buy damaged cars across the Tyne Valley and Northumberland, including Haydon Bridge, Bardon Mill, Corbridge, Prudhoe and Haltwhistle, with free flatbed collection if it is not driveable.
Do you buy keyed or vandalised cars?
Yes. Keyed panels, broken windows and a slashed roof are all things we have bought before. We price the car on the cost to put it right and collect it on a transporter if it is not safe to drive.
What about a car with a cracked or smashed windscreen?
Not a problem. A cracked screen may make the car illegal to drive, so we bring it back on the flatbed. It does not stop the sale and it is a minor factor in the price.
