Common questions
Worth more than scrap, answered
Is my car worth more than scrap?
Often, yes. If a car still starts and drives, has some MOT left, or has a fault cheaper to live with than to fix, it is usually worth more than its scrap value. We Buy Cars Hexham is a trade buyer, not just a scrapyard, so we frequently pay over the scrap figure even for cars with problems.
When is a car only worth scrap?
Usually a genuine non-runner with a major fault, structural, fire or flood damage, or when the cost to fix it far exceeds the car. Even then, get a trade offer first, the scrap-weight figure is almost always the lowest a car can fetch.
Do you really pay more than a scrapyard?
Often, yes. A scrapyard pays for the metal by weight. As a trade buyer we can retail, repair or break a car, so our offer reflects what it is worth to the trade, usually more than its weight in metal.
Can you take a car with no MOT or one that will not start?
Yes. We buy MOT failures and non-runners every week and collect them on our own recovery truck, so the car never needs to be driven on the road. You do not need a valid MOT to sell a car to us.
What do I need to sell you the car?
The V5C logbook in your name and a set of keys make it simplest, but missing paperwork is not a dealbreaker for a trade buyer. We take the V5C, pay you by bank transfer, and notify the DVLA before we leave.
