The short version
  • A 2011 Ford Ranger 2.5 TDCi XL single cab in red, bought from a local farmer
  • About as basic as they come, no heated leather or gadgets, just a clean, honest pickup
  • A genuinely low-mileage example and very tidy underneath
  • We had it machine polished to bring the red paint back to life
  • Sold to a concrete company in central London as a site and emergency vehicle
  • The long single-cab bed will take two dumpy bags of sand, which is exactly why they wanted it

Where it came from

We bought this Ranger from a local farmer, the kind of seller who buys a truck to work and looks after it because it earns its keep. It had clearly been used, but used and cared for, which is the best way to buy a pickup.

Basic, and all the better for it

This is the XL, the 2.5 TDCi diesel, and about as bog-standard as a Ranger comes, and we mean that as a compliment. No heated leather, no fancy electronics, just hard-wearing seats and the things you actually need. For a lot of buyers that simplicity is the whole appeal, there is less to go wrong and it is built to graft. Underneath it was a low-mileage, very tidy example.

A bit of care before it moved on

The only thing it really wanted was a clean. We had it machine polished, which brought the red right back and made it pop, and showed the truck off for what it was, a straight, honest single cab.

From a Northumberland farm to central London

It ended up going a fair distance, sold to a concrete company in central London to use as a site and emergency vehicle. The single cab is the clever part, because there is only one row of seats the load bed is longer, and theirs needed to carry two dumpy bags of sand. This one did it easily.

We buy pickups and working vehicles too

Vans, pickups, 4x4s and farm vehicles are all things we are happy to buy, not just cars. If you have a working vehicle you no longer need, let us know about it and we will come and look. Collection is free.
