2014 Toyota Yaris Trend 1.33 VVT-i - collected in Tow Law

A 2014 Toyota Yaris, bought new and looked after, vandalised while the owner was on holiday. Every window smashed, glass across the seats and the street, and a glass-only quote that was more than the car was worth. We came out to Tow Law the same day and took it away on the truck.

  • Make & model: Toyota Yaris Trend 1.33 VVT-i, 5-door
  • Year: 2014, bought new by the owner
  • Mileage: 135,000
  • Gearbox: manual
  • Colour: Red
  • Collected from: Tow Law, County Durham, the same day
  • Condition: vandalised, every window put through including the windscreen, rear screen and mirror glass, undrivable and unroadworthy, glass all over the seats and the street

This one was a horrible situation for the owner. She'd bought the Yaris new in 2014 and looked after it, then went away on holiday and came back to find every window in it smashed. Windscreen, rear screen, all four door windows, even the mirror glass. Glass across the seats, glass across the street, and a car that couldn't legally or safely turn a wheel.

When the repair costs more than the car

She was quoted around a thousand pounds just for the glass, before anyone had fitted a single pane. On a Yaris of this age and mileage that's the car's value gone before you've started, and it doesn't touch the clean-up, the seals, or whatever else was found once the glass was out. A car she'd bought new and spent good money on had, through no fault of her own, become close to scrap value overnight, and an eyesore parked outside her house.

Same day, glass and all

We came out to Tow Law the same day, our first buy over that way. First job on arrival was brushing the glass off the driver's seat. It started and it drove, so we gave it a quick clutch test, but there was no real road test to be had through a smashed windscreen with no mirrors, so it went straight onto the truck and off the street.

The engine and gearbox were fine. It was the glass, and only the glass, that finished it as an economical car for her. For us that's a car with a future somewhere, and for her it was a fair number, a same-day collection and the street back to normal.

Come home to a car that's been vandalised, or been quoted a repair that's more than the car is worth? Tell us about it, see the damaged cars we buy, or what we pay for Toyotas. We bring the truck, so it doesn't need to move under its own steam.
