The logbook is not proof of ownership
The V5C exists to tell the DVLA who the registered keeper is, the person responsible for taxing the car, not who owns it. That is printed on the document itself. So a missing logbook does not put the sale in doubt, it just changes which bits of paper move where. What we need instead is simple: photo ID such as a driving licence or passport, and the keeper details checking out against the car. The figure we have agreed does not change because the V5C is missing.
If a replacement is already in the post
Plenty of sellers have already sent a V62 off to the DVLA for a replacement logbook by the time they call us. A replacement V5C usually costs 25 pounds and arrives within five to seven working days, but you do not need to wait for it.
